WORKSHOP: Introduction to Galaxy for bioinformatics

This beginner’s tutorial will introduce the Galaxy Australia interface and tools, how to run a simple analysis and how to turn an analysis into a Galaxy Workflow (pipeline). The material covered in this workshop is based on the freely available tutorials at the links below:

Once you know how to use Galaxy you can upskill yourself using the Learning Pathways. Galaxy is an open source, web-based platform for accessible, reproducible, and transparent computational biomedical research. It allows users without programming experience to easily specify parameters and run individual tools as well as larger workflows. It also captures run information so that any user can repeat and understand a complete computational analysis. Finally, it allows users to share and publish analyses via the web.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Navigate and use the Galaxy platform

  • Upload and interact with data on Galaxy

  • Analyse data using Galaxy tools and view results

  • Create and manage Galaxy Workflows
