Dr Conrad Leonard

Conrad is a data scientist and research software engineer. He has expertise in bioinformatics systems design and his mission is to build platforms that translate the potential of genomic technologies into equitable clinical practice.

He spent five years in Sean Grimmond’s lab at the Queensland Centre for Medical Genomics responsible for database design and dataflow automation for the International Cancer Genome Consortium project, in what was at the time the largest genome sequencing lab in the Southern hemisphere. He then moved to the Queensland Institute of Medical Research to work for John Pearson in the Genome Informatics lab, where he lead the data architecture and continuing delivery of the human genomics data analysis platform. He designed systems used by the genomiQa startup and the core facility responsible for analysing more than 30,000 human samples in over 200 studies.

He is very excited to be working on the GUARDIANS project as Technical Lead in the Human Genome Informatics platform at Australian BioCommons.

Conrad’s position is co-funded by Bioplatforms Australia and the University of Melbourne, and hosted by the University of Melbourne.
