Dr Jonathan Arthur

Jonathan is the Associate Director, Operations and Strategic Partnerships at Australian BioCommons. In this role, he is responsible for managing daily operations, developing and overseeing external partnerships, and contributing to the organisation's strategic planning.

Jonathan brings a wealth of experience from the biotechnology, academic, and research service sectors. He holds a PhD in Theoretical Chemistry from the University of Sydney and undertook postdoctoral training in bioinformatics at Fox Chase Cancer Center in the USA. He has held several senior leadership roles in Australia, including Associate Professor for Bioinformatics and CEO/Director of Sydney Bioinformatics at the University of Sydney, and CTO at the Children’s Medical Research Institute. Immediately prior to joining Australian BioCommons, he was the Head of Membership Services at Intersect Australia, where he led Intersect’s digital research skills training, research support, and data analytics activities.

He is passionate about evidence-based strategy and implementation and is a strong advocate for people-centred leadership.

Outside of work, Jonathan enjoys running and is a regular participant in parkrun.

Jonathan’s position is funded by Bioplatforms Australia, and hosted by the University of Melbourne.
Jonathan is based in Sydney where his office space is generously provided by Sydney Informatics Hub at the University of Sydney.
