Mitchell is committed to making bioinformatics more accessible by developing scalable infrastructure and innovative pipelines that empower researchers. After completing a PhD in genomics, he has gained extensive experience across diverse fields, including clinical genomics, conservation biology, machine learning and synthetic data generation. Mitchell has successfully led interdisciplinary projects that utilise high-performance computing (HPC) and cloud-based platforms.

Through his work with the Sydney Informatics Hub and Australian BioCommons, Mitchell focuses on advancing the bioinformatics community by creating reproducible workflows and building collaborative partnerships to drive scientific discovery and accessibility in the life sciences. In his personal research, Mitchell is particularly passionate about applying bioinformatics to explore the biology underlying complex traits in domestic species, like dogs.

Mitchell’s position is co-funded by Bioplatforms Australia and The University of Sydney, and is hosted by The University of Sydney.
