Introduction to NGS and bioinformatics analysis

This workshop introduces next generation sequencing (NGS) technologies and the fundamental bioinformatics analysis involved in modern sequencing analysis. Practical exercises focus on a typical bioinformatics workflow for NGS data, including hands-on exercises in quality control and read mapping. Participants will develop an understanding of standard file formats, quality score encoding and common bioinformatics tools.

Location: Online

Date/Time: 15 - 16 July 2026, 1 - 5pm AEST / 12:30 - 4:30pm ACST / 11am - 2pm AWST (check in your timezone). You must attend both sessions.

Who the workshop is for:

The workshop is designed for biologists, other life scientists, and computer scientists planning to work with next-generation sequencing data. To get involved, all you need is a web browser and an account on Galaxy Australia

Prior experience using Galaxy or completion of the Introduction to Galaxy workshop is recommended.

Trainers:

Claire Herne, QCIF Digital Research

Dr Lachlan McKinnie, QCIF Digital Research

How to apply:

This workshop is free but applications are essential. Please only register if you can commit to attending both days.
