nf-core hackathon: Australian Outpost

A group of Nextflow enthusiasts will come together in Sydney for the 2026 nf-core hackathon. We are happy to extend the international hackathon’s network of live sites to Australia, allowing us to take part during our waking hours across 11-13 Mar 2026.

The global nf-core community curates a set of open‑source analysis pipelines built using Nextflow. The hackathon is for people with existing Nextflow skills who are interested in contributing to nf-core in collaborative teams. There will be a variety of projects to work on, and you can get hands-on experience contributing to projects alongside our local Nextflow Ambassadors. If you’d like to get a feel for how the event works, watch the short talk About nf-core hackathons.

Requirements for contributing:

  • Nextflow skills

  • Experience with nf-core is desirable

Benefits for participants:

  • Network with local Nextflow experts

  • Meet people from around Australia who are using Nextflow in their research

  • Make connections to the international nf-core community

  • See what others are working on and how they approach problem solving

  • Propose a project to find new collaborators

  • You might learn some new skills or join an ongoing international collaboration!

This event is free of cost and open to anyone working in research related to life sciences with an interest in nf-core pipelines. The hackathon is not a training event, and it is not suitable for beginner Nextflow users.

You must register with the international event organisers and indicate that you intend to join the Australian BioCommons satellite meeting. The hackathon will be hosted by the Sydney Informatics Hub at the University of Sydney. Lunch and light refreshments will be supplied to hackathon participants at the satellite site, but participants are responsible for their own travel, accommodation and other food expenses.

Registration is essential for both online or in person participation: register here
